At Harvest Christian School, we believe that education is about nurturing the whole child – spiritually, academically, and socially. Our curriculum is designed to integrate a Christian worldview into every subject, fostering a deeper understanding of God's creation and His purpose for our lives. We strive for academic excellence while grounding our students in timeless Christian values.

Bible

BJU Press’s elementary Bible Truths are studied in a systematic way, moving through the big story of the Old and New Testaments and leading students to appreciate God’s grand design for mankind and creation. Elementary Bible strives to instill a greater love for God and His Word by encouraging consistent Bible reading HABITs, singing, and regular Scripture memorization.

Language Arts

The BJU Press elementary Writing & Grammar program weaves together Writing, grammar, mechanics, listening, speaking, and viewing (visual literacy) to provide students with a solid English language arts foundation so they can enjoy and effectively use God’s gift of language. Proofreading activities give students practice in analyzing sentences, identifying grammatical errors, and correcting errors in writing. Students follow the writing process to write in numerous genres and formats including opinion pieces, informational texts, and narratives. We also place a high value on the art of handwriting and continue to teach cursive writing cultivating fine motor skills and individual expression.

Mathematics

The BJU Press elementary school Math program seeks to give students the solid foundation they need to use math for life. The materials carefully progress from tangible representations to abstract concepts so that students not only understand mathematical practices but can choose the appropriate method to tackle a specific problem. Using math is a key component of fulling the Creation Mandate and developing students reasoning abilities. The goal is to give students the skill sets they need to address realworld problems for the glory of God and the benefit of others.

Science

BJU Press’s elementary Science product line equips students to apply science to life. Explorations in scientific inquiry give students opportunities to observe, classify, measure data, analyze data, make inferences, and communicate their findings. Collaborative STEM activities give students opportunities to design, test, and refine engineered solutions to real-world problems.

Heritage Studies

The BJU Press elementary Heritage Studies program helps students to understand and interact in God’s world. To do that, it shows them how they fit into God’s design. God created humans as individual and social beings. When people live and work together to develop culture in God-glorifying ways, honoring the institutions God has established, they fulfill His creational purpose for them.

Reading

The BJU Press elementary reading program challenges students to engage with what they read. We want students to experience reading various types of literature so that they will become informed and efficient readers. They are instructed in techniques to analyze, interpret, and evaluate what they read from a biblical worldview. Each student should value reading because God reveals Himself to them through a book, the Bible.

Physical Education

HCS PE program promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. An emphasis is put on the importance of taking care of their bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit. Students participate in a variety of activities, developing healthy habits and a lifelong love of physical activity.

Music & Art

Art provides students with a creative outlet to express themselves and explore their God-given talents. Students are encouraged to use their artistic abilities to glorify God and to communicate truth and beauty. Students develop an appreciation for art history and learn various artistic techniques.

Spanish

HCS enhances student’s education with an introduction to Spanish. Students learn basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar, as well as an introduction to various cultures in Hispanic countries.

Technology

Technology at HCS plays a vital role in equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in a modern, digital world. The curriculum integrates digital literacy, critical thinking, and responsible technology use within a biblical framework that emphasizes stewardship, integrity, and discernment. Students are encouraged to view technology as a tool for creativity, collaboration, and service, aligning innovation with moral and ethical principles guided by Christian character in their use of technology.
